Emily lost 54 kg with support from Wegovy

Emily, 46, from Sheffield, felt like she was at rock bottom with her health. At 178 kg, she was mostly housebound, struggling with mobility, and felt like she was heading towards an early death. But with the support of Oviva’s Tier 3 weight management programme and the Wegovy she was prescribed on the service, she’s made life-changing progress, losing 54 kg so far—and for the first time, she truly believes she can lose the rest.

“I never thought it’d be possible to lose this much weight.”

Emily had been struggling with her weight for years, but in April 2023, she knew something had to change. At 178 kg, daily life was a challenge—she struggled to get out of bed and spent most of her time housebound.

When she started with Oviva in February 2024, she had already lost 25 kg. But with the additional support from Oviva, she’s since lost another 29 kg—making it 54 kg in total.

She was originally considering gastric sleeve surgery when she was referred, but now, she’s rethinking that decision. “I actually believe I can do it with the support from Oviva,” she explains.

“Wegovy gave me the boost to carry on.”

Emily was prescribed Wegovy around March and has had a positive experience with it. “I’ve had no side effects at all from the medication—it’s given me the boost I needed to carry on losing weight.” She credits the combination of the medication and Oviva’s structured support with helping her make real progress.

“The non-scale victories are just as important.”

While losing weight on the scales has been rewarding, Emily has also learned to celebrate other milestones. “All the staff have encouraged me to stay on track when I’ve lost no weight some weeks,” she shares. “It’s brilliant when the scales move, but I’ve learnt that the non-scale victories are just as important, like measuring your arms, waist, legs.”

The Oviva app has also played a key role in her journey. “I’m clueless with technology – I was dreading it. But the app is very easy to get on with.”

“Losing the weight has given me my life back.”

Beyond the physical changes, Emily has noticed a big difference in her mindset. Living with anxiety and depression has always been a challenge, but now, she’s developed coping strategies that help her keep going.

I eat rubbish some days (when things are difficult). But I’ve learned to put it behind me and not give up. I draw a line under it and start again – I can pick up where I left off now, whereas before I would have just chucked in the towel.

Now, she feels healthier, has more energy, and—most importantly—believes in herself. “I know I’ve still got a long way to go but now I believe in myself and know it’s possible to lose the rest of the weight.”
